Water Resources Engineer/Planner

Are you committed to an ecologically sustainable future? Biohabitats is seeking a Junior Water Resources Engineer to join our Hudson River Bioregion team (located in New York, NY).  

Applicants must not only be hardworking, motivated, and technically skilled, but also passionate about the environment and sincerely interested in integrating ecology and design. Work will consist of public, private, and institutional projects throughout the northeast. Projects, which will vary in type and scale, may include assessment, planning and design for green infrastructure, climate resilience, and ecological restoration projects. 

Roles 

» Supporting stream, wetland, and shoreline restoration design projects 

» Supporting climate resilience projects 

» Supporting stormwater management and green infrastructure design and retrofit projects 

» Creating site-specific concept designs through construction documents 

» Preparing specifications and cost estimates 

» Conducting natural resources and watershed inventories and field assessments 

» Support for other technical project tasks 

Required Skills 

» Unwavering environmental ethic 

» Strong written and oral communication skills 

» Professional or internship experience related to stream restoration, wetland restoration, shoreline restoration, green infrastructure, and/or climate resilience projects 

» Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD 

» Ability to work both collaboratively in a team environment and independently 

Helpful Skills 

» Knowledge of hydrologic and hydraulic modeling methods, techniques, and analyses 

» Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling programs (e.g., TR-55/TR-20, HEC-RAS, SWMM, HydroCAD)  

» Experience with MicroStation and ArcGIS / ArcMap / ArcGIS Pro 

» Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite 

Education 

B.S. or M.S. in relevant field (e.g., Civil, Environmental, Ecological, or Biosystems Engineering; Landscape Architecture; Urban Planning; etc.)
